Abstract: The objective of this study was to analyze the access to jobs for people with disabilities through the quota system and its relevance to their educational training, especially considering the link between this measure of positive discrimination and those who reach the tertiary level of education. Uruguay has been the scene of a set of social transformations linked to the legal recognition of social groups that have historically been invisible. In this context, the group of people with disabilities and their connection to work acquires relevance. The segregation and historical exclusion of the most diverse areas of daily life and social life of people with disabilities has begun to be questioned, presenting policies of difference or positive discrimination as one of the strategies to address these situations of inequality. In this study, qualitative research techniques were used in the performance of twenty-three interviews and three discussion groups aimed at people with disabilities with different socioeconomic profiles according to level of occupation, educational training, age, and sex. Analysis of the results yielded evidence that supports the particular specificity acquired by this quota system, which, far from diminishing or eliminating social inequalities, reinforces distances and stresses the rights of persons with disabilities. It becomes essential to exercise a critical reflexivity, given from the deconstruction and denaturalization of disability, which enables new spaces to rethink and address the issue.
