Abstract: An individual with spinal cord injury (SCI) shares his story and experiences with SCI and the recovery process at the 2013 annual meeting of the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA). He addresses the longevity of SCI individuals and points out the difference between rehabilitation today verses fifty years ago. Along with talking about what the future may hold for the SCI population and the rehabilitation process which should strive to assist SCI individuals to increase function, promote independence, and prepare to re-enter society, he also stresses the importance of being vigilant and staying physically active.
