Things to Know Before You Lace Up Your Sneakers
The NIDRR-funded ENACT project (H133B100003) continues their ENACT Podcast Series with Episode 2. In "Ready to Move with Arthritis: Things to Know Before You Lace Up Your Sneakers" Sara Crandall, PT, and Dr. Karen Jacobs share what to discuss with your doctor or PT, what to look for in a good exercise shoe, and how to pace yourself when starting new physical activity.

Barrier-Free Technology on Display at Cloud Computer Forum
The Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII) concept, developed by the NIDRR-funded Rehab Engineering Research Center on Universal Interface and Information Technology Access (H133E080022), received support from the Cloud4All project funded by the European Commission. Implementations of GPII were demonstrated at last week's 5th Cloud Computer Forum and Workshop sponsored by the US Dept of Commerce. Among the demos, specially programmed rings send signals to customize computers and smart phones to the wearer's needs: low vision, low literacy, and low cognitive skills. Project SEARCH Interns Graduate with Real-World Experience
Congratulations to the newest graduates of Project SEARCH, part of the NIDRR-funded Virginia Commonwealth University Rehab Research Training Center (H133A080027)! Project SEARCH matches high school seniors with autism to nine-month internships where they learn personal and professional skills. Every member of this year's group at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital was hired at the end of the program. Check out this great article and video in the Richmond Times Dispatch.

New Article in Implementation Science from KT4TT
The NIDRR-funded Center on Knowledge Translation for Technology Transfer (H133A080050) has published an open-access article in the journal Implementation Science. "Modeling technology innovation: How science, engineering, and industry methods can combine to generate beneficial socioeconomic impacts," by Vathsala I. Stone and Joseph P. Lane is freely available to download. This article has been downloaded more than 1,300 times in the 30 days since it was published!  

WRAP Self Management Program Shows Promise for People with Mental Illness
Results from a trial of the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) at the NIDRR-funded National Research and Training Center on Psychiatric Disability and Co-occuring Medical Conditions (H133B100028) support the effectiveness of this mental illness self-management intervention which involves education and peer support to reduce depression and anxiety and increase self-perceived recovery among individuals with serious mental illness. In a new article in the June issue of Psychiatric Services, the authors confirm "the importance of WRAP as part of a group of evidence-based, recovery-oriented interventions."

The NIDRR-funded Rehab Research and Training Center on Enhancing the Employment Outcomes of Individuals who Experience a Stroke (H133B080031) is co-sponsoring this National Aphasia Association conference along with the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Geriatric Research Educational & Clinical Center and the U of Pittsburgh Dept of Communication Sciences & Disorders.This is an excellent, affordable conference for people with aphasia and their families, community group leaders, and rehabilitation professionals to learn the latest in aphasia research. SHRM-Cornell Survey Shows Steps to Retain and Advance Employees with Disabilities
Disability-focused affinity groups, return-to-work or disability management programs, and flexible work arrangements are among the most effective tools employers can use to retain and advance their employees with disabilities. These are the findings of a NIDRR-funded survey from the Society for Human Resource Management and Cornell University ILR School Employment and Disability Institute (H133B100017). Susanne Bruyère, PhD, of Cornell and Mark Schmit of SHRM discuss the results of the survey of more than 650 HR professionals.
