Author(s):
Bauer, Steve and Stone,Vathsala
Project title:
Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technology Transfer
Project Number:
H133E980024
Tool type:
Survey
Tool class:
Nonengineering tool
Disability targeted:
No specific disability
Study target:
Participants in moderated forums on technology transfer
Study purpose or goal:
To gauge the effectiveness of forum materials, processes, and moderators with the purpose of ensuring maximum participation among all stakeholders
Ease of use:
Very easy
Time to complete:
Less than 10 minute without alternative format requirements. Less than 30 minutes with alternative formats.
Equipment required:
none
Are any approvals required?:
No approvals are required
How is it administered?:
The survey asks 10 questions with rating scales and gathers information and ratings on the accessibility of materials and facilities, quality of materials, moderator effectiveness, discussion content depth, and breadth. Open ended questions for feedback (best thing, what improvements). Overall evaluation: what benefits did they take away? No names are recorded. Stakeholder information is collected.
Development background:
The survey itself did not require literature or database searchers. A simple form was chosen to maximize the amount and quality of the data
Development methodology:
Surveys were improved with each implementation
Outside consultation:
Consultations were made, one on one, with sample member of the target audience
Can this tool be used for other purposes/populations?:
The survey is available from the project. Contact Vasthala Stone for more information
Sample type:
There was no specific sample gathered
Data analysis:
Is complete
Limitations:
The form was kept simple and short. There are no known limitations.
Implications:
Data analysis was done immediately following each forum. Data analysis was aggregated by stakeholder group. This showed differences between groups which might have been missed otherwise. Each population participating brings different facets to the demand-pull side of tech transfer. Manufacturers were talking about business opportunites and networking with other manufacturers. Some stakeholders (other than consumers) recognized the value of consumer input and recommended third party reimbursers be included. Networking was important across stakeholders groups. This opportunity had not been presented
Impact of these findings on the field:
The data gathered will be used to improve sessions on one hand and developing best practices on the other. It will be useful to industry and participants in the tech transfer process.
Peer review status:
unknown
Who uses the collected data?:
Forum organizers
